After the Party Is Over
Wineglass stained
red
red-rimmed eyes
needing sleep
After the party is over
the patrons depart
leaving behind memories
Did anyone know why
they were there?
Well, the question
didn't arise
the revelers danced for hours
later the moonlight
was blocked by clouds
don't try to explain
this late at night words
fail us
after the party is over
we'll take a deep breath
and head home
a starlit sky
awaits us
don't be fooled by
the sighs in the air
the party was
sufficent in its time
Now we walk
a perilous path
which leads us to
a new morning
somewhere near
the sun
