After All These Years

It's always there within me, that
feeling of non-belief.
You would think after all these years I
would have found relief.

The heartfelt joy of true love I found
in years so young,
Became an all too sad song unlike
the love songs, sung.

I tried to mend that broken heart but
you could never see
Just what those mean and hurtful things were
were building up in me.

And soon you left me all alone, never
again I'd see your face,
I felt the love I'd felt for you seemed
now like such a waste.

He's gone, they said, he passed away, but
years had left me cold.
My heart did break again that day
from memories sad and old.

I did forgive, did not forget
the good times and the wrongs.
But I still keep you in my heart 'cause
that's where love belongs.
