after a war

after a war

There was a war here
And many soldiers died
for little purpose
Abandoned battlefield
They look the same
empty trances, the enemy
has taken the dead
with them
A few items of clothing here and there
We know people suffered
for weeks and months
Leafless trees shot a thousand times
The air is overcast
colors left long ago
If one asks what it was about
people struggle to remember
