AFRICA IS GOLD

They say
you value only what you lose.
They say Africa is poor.
I say
Africa is gold.

Here lives Ubuntu.
“I am because we are.”
And because we are,
I live.

The land gives freely.
Food grows without begging.
The earth is warm.
Even sleep is kind.

It is as if
God lingered longer here.
As if creation paused
and smiled.

There were no street children.
No hunger of the soul.
Until strangers arrived
with maps and hunger.

In Europe,
every man is alone.
In Africa,
everyone belongs.

Our poverty is not soil.
Not resources.
It is the captivity
of the mind.

Africa, listen.
Your greatest enemy
is not Europe.
It is forgetfulness
within yourself.

They endure many winters.
You live in endless summer.
And heaven has always preferred
the sun.

They dream of you.
They long to stay.
While you flee
your own miracle.

Think twice, Africa.
Gold that abandons itself
becomes dust.
