Adversity of Scarcity
Besieged by scarcity, they have fallen,
fallen into adversity
— the adversity of scarcity
The rain falls, but their seeds grow not
There is plenty, but their belly is empty
They are the fallen, down by adversity
— the adversity of scarcity
Plenty to go around, yet they get not a morsel
They are muzzled, for they have no muscle
To get a bite, they've got to chip in for the tart
But, they have to take a hike, for they can't get
astride; they've fallen, into adversity,
all because of scarcity
— the adversity of scarcity
They have lost steam, so they are short on esteem
They get not, if they've got not, so they get none;
that's the law, the law of neediness
To get about, they need a clout, but no crowd about,
for they are not the “in crowd”
They're down, so they're left out, kept out of the crowd
Now they're without, and do without,
all because of adversity
— the adversity of scarcity
