nine months later there was i
you were absent the day of...
my first steps
my first words
my first tooth

when i turned five i just knew you would arrive
but you were absent on the day of...
my first day of school
my first recital
my first graduation

turning sixteen is when girl is almost a lady
i hope this time just maybe
but you were absent on the day of...
my first dance
my first date
my first broken heart

when i became a woman my goal was to
find you.so you wouldn't miss
my first home
my first walk down the aisle
my first child
but you were absent on the day of

so many firsts we have missed because...
you were absent on the day of
