Notes About The Poem

Claude Monet's "The Walk, Woman with a Parasol"

My grandmother had a reproduction of this painting hanging in her veranda, her favorite place to relax and enjoy a scone and a cup of tea.  Seeing this image stirs wonderful memories of those times my grandmother allowed me to join her.

ADMIRING THE WOMAN WITH A PARASOL

She rises into the sky’s bright breath,
her dress a sail the wind has claimed.

Sunlight drifts over her in petal-light shimmers,
each of Monet’s brushstroke a whisper of movement.

The parasol tilts, green and glowing
a small moon held against the trembling blue.

Below her, the grasses lean in admiration,
their soft applause lost in the shimmer of day.

Lovely interpretation of this iconic painting. It is one of my favorite paintings. You did a beautiful job with this poem. I also did a poem on this painting titled Cliff. I especially love the imagery in the last couplet. Sending you blessings!
