Addiction

My addiction is a place I want to be
It's my reality and my creative key
To unlock my thoughts and secrets deep
With strangers - my secrets can keep

A place where judgement is free
I can be anyone that I want to be
Or simply be me - there's no one else to please
Because with my addiction i feel at ease

Internal thoughts and emotions knotted
Desperate to be unlocked and unleashed
My mind, body and soul now breathes
My addiction that gives me my release

I like this poem alot. I especially like how you danced around the addiction without revealing it, allowing the reader to insert there own.

Hi Joe..thank u for stopping by. Yes i like the idea of the reader inserting their own idea, especially because an addiction is different from one person to another. Mine is not one of substance abuse........alcohol, drugs etc......but one might think it is from reading a poem that does not disclose it :) I liek your comments very much - Shaz

Addictions, the place we retreat to in times of trouble. Coming from a family of addiction I am ever vigilant to keep a distance from those things that would draw me. I like the line "A place where judgement is free" accept for the judgement we heap on ourselves that further fuels our addiction. I love how you cut clear to the bone with your writing, such an honest portrayal of a universal problem.
