Acidic Sweetness

Chasing fairytales all her life Searching desperately for love Leaving no stone unturned Sweet naivety Believing an illusion Swallowing his deception Her ears crave his enchanting lies So she remains his flautist Eager to play his melody for a lifetime Rigid iceberg dismantled her dream Overcome with an epiphany of his treachery Sweetness turning sour every disappointing waking hour Pretending not to hear her cries Indifference disguised as ignorance Now too sagacious to fall for his trickery again Knowing that she is his puppet But, unable to cut the strings that bind her to him Once upon a time she was golden Sweetest girl, a treasure But, now her emerald eyes have lost their luminous shine Her broken heart filled with rage planning his agonizing demise Wicked fantasies dancing in her head Invoking the power of all Living for the moment when she can watch him crumble and fall Impeding the deadly venom he spews in her direction Instead forcing him to drink from the chalice of bitter reflection Mirror breeding the truth of his dishonor Realizing with horrific fright That forever acidic sweetness will be kissing him goodnight. © 2008 Courtney Dyer
