Acceptance
Poems – rhyming or
Free verse – straightforward,
Which paint a picture
That make us laugh or cry,
That strike a chord within us!
Not ordinary! Not untaught
Or unlearned! None of those!
I used to think that others
Were on a higher plane,
That only abstractions,
(Words, ideas, strung together
In concepts a mystery to me,
Forming no connections
In my more linear mind),
Were “real”, “insightful”!
(Deep, obscure, and meaningful
Being one and the same)
While I, somehow more literal,
Must somehow be inferior
In intelligence or understanding!
But I’ve grown old enough to find
That all of us seek meaning differently,
That I, writing in clearer, plainer,
Less convoluted language,
Still can scale the heights and
Depths of understanding,
Still communicate in simple words
Which stir the heart and mind
And reflect a deeper meaning
For those who wish to see.
