Absolutes

Absolutes

		1

	Darkness dominates
the earthly cycle at year’s end.
	This is true
	no matter how many fools
	legislate otherwise.

		2

	Dogs have unerring internal clocks
	and finite bladders.

	Taken together,
	these absolutes of nature
	guarantee that I’ll witness
every dawn from November to March
	regardless of my
	preferences or exhortations.

	I don’t have a problem with this,
although I’d much rather be relishing
the warmth of bed and wife.
I trade comfort for being part of
	cold quiet pinking toward sunrise,
	snow blowing horizontal,
	rain sometimes gentle,
often thrown hard against the ground
	heaped upon the poor dogs
	answering the call
	of another of nature’s absolutes:

	when you gotta’ pee,
	you gotta’ pee.

With two goldens, this resonates perfectly. Everyone around here does morning, noon and night, and some of us are all night too.

Thanks, Donna. I'm too serious most of the time, so a bit of a smile is good...

Oh my, I was not expecting that ending. What a creative way to express the way time changes affect everything! I totally agree :)

this is really unique and I sure enjoyed it. One of the best I read today. As for daylight savings time, I LOVE it!!! Means I have daylight longer in summer. I am not much for seeing the mornings come up!!

I enjoy it too, but I get irritated every time it changes. My obviously wrong notion is that time is time. I'm glad you enjoyed it... Jack
