Notes About The Poem

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Stronger

She thought her absence would make his heart grow fonder
While she was gone instead it grew stronger and stronger
Perhaps a sign he didn't need her any longer

He thought back to when they first met
Under the bleachers trying not to get wet
Her hair became so frizzy boy she was upset

He laughed at her gave her a kiss
Thought to himself what could be better than this
Within the storm he found his bliss

Years passed she gained more power
He felt like a male Rapunzel, locked in a tower
What was once sweet had now become sour

He didn't realize her love was a trap
Her absence awoke him from his nap
No longer a puppy on his master's lap

Absence gave him strength to walk away
Tired of the games she liked to play
So he left her in yesterday
Life without her is more than okay

Fortunately my buddy did not fall back
into her trap. He never did get his
money back. I guess that was the
price of freedom.

Freedom from misery is always worth every penny, and in time the pain fades away, Another great message of life from you Rick. Take care, Richard

A very powerful and beautiful poem giving encouragement this is my dear friend Richard. The story was so sad but at times like this, we need juicy fruit gums, I mean strength.:))) I remember one of the lines in an old love poem of mine with an irony:Absence makes the heart to wander;))) but I like this one better. Thank you so much for sharing. So love it and enjoyed! Have a blessed wkend! love lots and biggest hugs, Leonora

Controlling relationships are so stifling and can creep up so slowly. Very well expressed with inspiring wisdom :)

Your title is so ironic in that I watched this great documentary the other day about Absinthe and I was think about writing a poem entitled "Absinthe Makes the Heart Grow Fonder" lol. Great write, Richard :)

- Although this is "only" a poem .... I think that many relationships end so ... - A "ticket" to a residence permit in the country .... unfortunately no love from both sides ... well written Richard. - oxox // Anne-Lise :)

Thanks Anne Lise. I have a friend that met a guy on vacation from Nicaragua. Good looking guy, charming, swept her off her feet. They married, he came to Canada and was gone 3 months later. There are those that use people. She was wanting love and for a time he was her dream. Sadly that dream became a nightmare.
