Abominable Spring
After the long, nuclear winter blizzard,
came the abominable spring
Permafrost thaw of a frozen solstice ...
irradiated human cattle
grazing on the solyent green
Radiation contamination was a growing hazard;
mutating, red-blooded bluebirds fed
on decayed, crocus flesh flowering
The chirps and the moos
had a field of dead dreams reminisce —
Gullet beak and the cud chew
won a protein glut battle
Of the spreading, abundant solyent green,
there was no mushrooming scarcity
Summer and autumn cannibal feast,
bountiful harvest of an abominable spring
