Abandoned
Beneath a lamppost on a deserted street
A young girl nervously taps her feet
The sidewalk heaves;unsteady in her step
Trembling, she softly wept
Bleak and dark the evening sky
No sign or hope for a kind passer-by;
Orphaned, a cast off, unfit to be kept
Trembling, she softly wept
Phantom shadows transform into stalkers on the prowl
She shudders by the sound of a screeching owl;
A child forsaken, a destiny of loss and neglect
Trembling, she softly wept.
