Notes About The Poem

Abandoned

Abandoned …

By the heart who I once adored
He left me feeling like I was alone, forsaken
By the kindness I’d often explored,
The only hope I had was that I was mistaken

But, it would be many days, even years
Before I’d learn that his love just wasn’t real,
He’d left me in pain, with all my tears,
Falling like rain – how I wished I couldn’t feel

Abandoned …

By the promise of a new love,
A heart who I trusted with all of me,
Someone I could always think of…
As my heart’s best friend, one who’d be…

Forever by my side, always abiding,
Sharing hope and peace, love that believes,
A shining example, always providing…
Beautiful that stirs pleasure who never leaves,

Abandoned …

By the feelings who left me doubting,
Would I never be able to know love?
Would I ever be left, simply pouting?
Would my heart ever feel hope to speak of?

When, I kept thinking, can I ever aspire…
To experience the gentleness, the beauty,
All the wonder that a heart does require…
From the feelings that are more than just duty?

Abandoned …

By the years when I was accepting,
Always giving, and never neglecting,
With a caring that was sincere, excepting….
the fears that kept our hearts from connecting,

In spite of all the worries and strife,
From the heart, I am forever sure…
We are meant to share our whole life,
With promise that this love will endure!

Abandoned …

Yes! I’ve known rejection and loss,
I’ve experienced all the pain,
The feelings I just couldn’t get across…
To the one I truly loved, but couldn’t attain –

Still, I discovered the amazement of one
Who gave me more love that I had known,
Love that would forever shine like the sun,
And, from that love, my heart has grown!

So deep and soulful, Gina. Yet, we must find space in our heart to forgive and accept, as you have written and to entwine with God, who dwells in the cave of our heart. Warmest congratulations on your win in the contest.

I steadfastly believe that if its meant to be, it will be. If we force the issue there is the chance of falling into a relationship that we will later regret. To have loved, only to find hidden hurtful truths can be devastating, persevere and the Lord will lead you onto the right path and even help you plant seeds that will grow into devotion and caring. Regina your words are so wise, and your poem exceptionally relatable. Thank you for your lovely poem.

- Unfortunately, love is not without risk or loss... most people are afraid of never finding love... the fear of being rejected... - Never lose faith in love - A beautiful poem, Gina :) - Best wishes in the contest :) - hugs

Your creation of an exceptional poem resonates deeply with every individual. It transcends the realm of mere obligation, delving into the profound essence of love and its true nature. Through your encounters with what love should not embody, you have gained invaluable wisdom. While some may perceive these experiences as negative, you possess an astute ability to accurately contextualize them.

Wow - Would I ever be left, simply pouting? Some would think this was bad but you put things in proper perspective! … From the feelings that are more than just duty… You have experienced what love should not be which has given you much wisdom. My husband’s cousin is the same..now much happier. God bless you! This will be a winner!!
