A Yellow Leaf
The leaf turgid, green and proud
while seated on a branch of tree
turns into soul of trodden below
as human soul of the once proud
is buried, trodden afoot with boots
once I came across a leaf expelled
by the tree that it served so well
the leaf sat on bear soil thinking;
“The service I gave to mother tree
so loyally, so honestly, so eagerly
the rain, bad weather I weathered
have not been honored by mother!
Now, I am here seated alone dying,
yellow with age, suffering, vanishing,
No one comes near to vindicate me
Is this the way of the plant world?
