A YEAR TO FORGET

A YEAR TO FORGET We all have times we’d like to forget, it’s true Perhaps a moment, a day, a month or year One must discard the old and embrace the new I think there’s a time and a place to shed a tear But this year just past may justify a flood And maybe I’ll say I don’t give a damn, my dear For some bad luck may even run in the blood There’s those who always moan and complain For whom the sky’s never blue but more like mud They say there’s a kind of trick, for staying sane You put the past away and then forget it Release the tap so it leaks out from your brain One is owed a future bright without that pain And to never have a year like that again

I share your opinion of 2023. In line 5, I think you mean "just passed" and line 8 ought to begin "There are". Consider, perhaps, inserting a line 14 along these lines "Devoid of weaponry and malice".

Thanks for your comments. I have followed the rules of a Terza Rima, (Chained rhyme aba bcb cdc ded dd , iambic pentameter optional, Line-length 11 syllables) so line 14 is rhymed 'd'. 'Past' is used here as an adjective not a verb, and at least in UK "there's" is a common form even in plurality. Regards

I agree...never another like the one that's almost passed! I agree with your trick of staying sane...forget or at the very least distance one's self. We all deserve a future without pain. Well done, Howard. Have a great evening, Sara
