A Writer's Reach

The pale blue lines on which I write
stretch to infinity,
and hint of a distant, misty line
where heaven touches sea.

The reach of sight, the eye's extreme,
as far as the mind can go,
is but a candle in the sun
of all the heart may know.

A writer's reach must far exceed
a cogent grasp of words.
To reach a reader's heart, indeed,
the writer's must be heard.
