A Whispered Word

I miss my mama’s hugs The smile of her Delight That lit her eyes at seeing me Sometimes I still feel her here Hugs wrap tight around me Her cheek against mine Her hug a whispered word Encouragement You can do this ~ whatever was My need at the time In later years of fragility Our foreheads Touch in tenderness As our hug ~ a bond strengthened When she, no longer able to Articulate, knew A whispered word, my love to her Hugs of encouragement Forever our smiles The hugs that surrounded us Gently To the end of our days written 6-1-2020 Hugs Poetry Contest Craig Cornish sponsor
