A Way In

You feel a thread pull loose
that holds down an edge.
The thin facade is beginning
to lift like weathered paint,
the foundations shake.
What holds it all together
is weakening.

Another world is starting
to break through,
poke a presence into those
sanctuaries you've held holy
and walled against intrusion.
Demands now creep and grow
like weeds whose seeds carry
on the breath of strangers.
They are starting to slowly
find a way in.
Each morning, now,
when you look out
of your window, you see
a world that is no longer yours.
Bit by bit you're becoming obsolete.

Just two years ago I was pronounced "non-essential" now I've been upgraded to "obsolete". This is a masterful metaphoric indictment of today's social and political silliness

Appreciate your comments John. Pleased that the content resonated, an echoed confirmation perhaps that ones sense of foreboding is not misplaced nor unique. Good to know. Regards.

slow, silent change is insidious. I think we have to make a concerted effort to prohibit certain ideas and ways from subconsciously normalizing. Well written, Paul.

Thanks Jeff. Indeed, insidious intent infiltrates and dilutes sound judgement making everything a slave to fashionable opinion. Individual freedom given over to doctrinaire movements claiming absolute rights. Dangerous. Regards
