Wow, I have just scrutinised your thread here an found no congratulatory comments, bemused, I checked the contest, mortified. I can't believe I overlooked this, remiss, I am ashamed of myself, my deepest heartfelt apologies Paul. This is a perfect haiku and should have been amongst the 1st place winners! Sadly I can't alter the results but in my book its a winner! Please forgive me, and accept a belated congratulations for an exceptionally good haiku... Upset I am... Mick

Hi Mick! This is only a contest and I can assure you that I hold no grudge:) On the contrary, I thank you for providing the inspiration with your contest...after all, that's what I mainly use contests for. I myself have been a judge in song contests, and I know how hard and frustrating it can be, both for the participants and the judges!! ~ Best regards // paul

I remember those. A disused one in a rambling garden in the house I grew up in, however my parents kept it there for sentimental reasons and for the many hours of enjoyment it brought us kids. Your wonderful Haiku brought back sweet memories, thank you, and its a favourite with me Paul. Good luck in the contest....Maria

Thank you very much, Maria. In the village square there was one such pump; people (mainly women) gathered there with jugs and pails, and filled them while exchanging news and gossip:) Glad it brought you back sweet memories. ~ Regards // paul

Those village pumps were very useful, although many households had wells where rain water from the roof was collected. As for being an antique, I would rather say that you have been graced with a long and fruitful life:) Thank you for stopping by, Eve. Hugs // paul
