Sunday morn I woke it was early June I jumped out of bed and walked to the beach The sun wasn't up yet but would rise soon Above me a seagull made a loud screech. The eastern sky glowed with a fiery red Was blinded as the sun started to rise I would have missed it had I stayed in bed Nature at best before my very eyes. In the distance I heard the peel of bells The waves were gently lapping on the shore 'Twas littered with seaweed and pretty shells And I could have stayed here for ever more My mother I'd promised to take to church Home I went couldn't leave her in the lurch.

Rereading this sonnet, Tom. Honestly, I keep clicking and can't find a poem I have not already commented to. But sometimes it is fun to reread an oldie. you are lucky if you live by a beach to see that sun rising every morning!

Beautiful imagery, Tom. My husband would take us to the coast in Oregon fishing and we'd park by the shore. It was glories to smell the ocean, hear the seagulls and the buoy bell. Mother's are important :)

Such beauty in the morning, on the beautiful beach, in the sky and lovely bells to boot. I also find loveliness in the promise to take your mom to church! What we do for others over ourselves matters! Be blessed!

Tom, these morning strolls on the beach can be so rewarding. (I used to get up early to find the nicest shells.) You've described the photo beautifully in your sonnet! And your words bring back warm memories. Hugs, Carolyn

Wow Tom, you capture a beautiful sunrise on the beach in Kefalonia, hope you also saw a sunset, also magnificent. You take me back to my trip to the Islands of Greece both times in my twenties but since then have have visited Athens several times - did you have time to see anything in Athens? Perhaps if you have time soup me with more lovely sights of the island. Hugs, Jennifer.
