A Walk in the Sand
I want to walk in the sand
and sing a silent hymn.
I need to feel the ocean waves
as they pull against my swim.
I want to taste the salty rime
that dries upon my skin
and feel the hot sun baking
my winter-weary limbs.
I want to lie on a blanket
on the island’s golden shore,
absorb the sun and sea and sky
and feel at peace once more.
I’ll watch the playful clouds
as they chase across the day
and listen to the children
laughing as they play.
For it’s there that I belong,
no matter come what may.
In my heart I’ll always be there
‘cause it’s in my DNA.
