A Waking Dream

A twilight state
between sleep
and awake
is where I met you
this morn.

We were together again
you and I
me and you
side by side
smiling and laughing
about some
silly little thing.

For a few seconds
or maybe a few hours
of dreamtime,
how can I know,
we were happy
and alive.

Then my eyes
cracked open
to peer out upon
the real world
and my vision of you
vanished
once more.
