A VISIT TO THE DOCTOR I had a bad cold, And my throat was sore, My husband told, Me to go to the Doctor, Before I got flu! I made an appointment and was due, To be seen at two o’clock. I sat down next to a young man, Who had the pock, He was coughing and Spluttering all over me, Can’t you see, Don’t you care, Are you not aware, That you’re spreading your germs, All around this place, He got up with a red face, And sat on a chair at the back Which fell as he sat for he was big, And the chair had a crack! As soon as he left, sat a lady, She told me she had shingles, Just to look at her gave me tingles. I got up very concerned and ready To take my next seat I chose one whose occupant I didn’t suspect, For physically I couldn’t detect, Anything visible, she told me She had swine flu, And my flu vaccine was overdue! I shot up and was ready to leave, But the next patient was a toddler Who seemed very shy, and I Did not register, That he seemed to have lumps His Mom told me Her youngster had mumps, After he had sat on my knee, And had a chew on my car-key! I phoned my husband and told him, That I had been in touch with a toddler, With mumps, I could immediately hear he fell down In the dumps For he had never had mumps, And disliked the thought of getting These lumps, And of course any repercussion thereafter, Would certainly not be a matter, For laughter! As I was about to leave, A little girl arrived with measles, Who repeatedly said Mom I don’t like needles! This was too much I was going home, I opened my bag, and put back my phone. We both thought it was certainly safer, To go home and take a Corenza! So if you get sick, Try and get better on your own, Or try to speak to your Doctor on the phone, For whatever it was I had, If I’d stayed at the Doctor's rooms I’d be sicker, sad And feeling bad!

Makes me think, 'there is always somewhat worst off than yourself' I like to look at faces in the waiting room, usually then makes me want to get up and dance, like on the class coffee table with the mags on..You have me in there with you Jennifer. i feel every word.

This is so witty and relateable, Jenny. I have always thought it so ironic that the most unhealthy place on the planet is a busy doctor's waiting room when all you want is to get healthy! Such a fun read, I'm so thankful I don't have to sit in a hospital urgent care right now with all the Covid patients! God bless you, dear friend - hugs and blessings ~ John

I know, and then you actually go into the doctor's rooms which are relatively small and you sit on a chair a person with measles or mumps was sitting on, i change my clothes when i come home and everything goes into the washing machine. So glad you found the poem fun my dear friend. hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

As serious as this is, it is absolutely hysterical - I could picture it as a comic sketch that would have me laughing until I wet myself. THIS happens, it is scary and to be able to laugh about it is to be doctored and medicated by your pen, Jenny. A fun, fun read. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Hi CayCay, So happy you found it funny - i must say some of the situations in a doctors room are hysterical, but scary if you are in danger of a disease been transmitted to you. I play musical chairs in a doctors room and keep moving to where i think its safer - the other patients don't seem to mind, but i think ahead a bit! If you liked this one you will love Gods Waiting Room. I can genuinely feel your love Cay Cay thank you for an awesome comment, Hugs, Jenny.

Sounds like the experience a lot of us have had. I think this has a connection to your hairstyling poem I just commented on. The risk of exposing oneself to any service in the ocean of sickness!!

Hi there, Thank-you for your comment Duke. Your comment on my hairstyling poem is not as yet showing. Hope you enjoyed it. Even more than an ocean, more like a planet! Best wishes - Jennifer.

You painted a brilliant picture of what the waiting room is like and you can end up with getting something worse than you went in with - love the humour especially about the mumps lol. Makes me smile when i walk in the doctors room and he asks how you are - err I'm visiting a doctor so something is amiss lol:-) hugs Jan xx

What a good poem and so true. I think most people leave Doctor's Rooms feeling more ill just by sitting round, listening and watching all the other sick people. I personally dislike the Doctor's rooms and now I know why....(LOL) - Kim

Hi Kim, I think we can see germs in transit with every cough or sneeze! But how else can we see a doctor, perhaps it will be over the internet in not too far in the future.

G'day Jennifer … I found your poem quite amusing because I have sat down in a waiting room and thought to myself; this is where all the lurgies come to swap bodies - just like you wrote - well done - Lindsay
