A Turncoat Friend
~~~~
For you have my stalwart friend,
Stood by me no matter what!
No false cloak of religiosity have
you hidden behind.
Nor various forms of poetic pomposity!
But you?
Alas you who I did trust.
Oh, to use the Lord, just to gain
popularity?
Then drop His cross and show
your true identity?
The worst form of usury.
Flattery in His holy name to climb
the human tree,
To be top monkey on the poetry
tree.
Sad, sad and more than tears can shed.
A soul for sale at any cost which
doth include cutting off your friend's head!
