-a Tribute To the Old Ones-

-A TRIBUTE TO THE OLD ONES-

IF ONLY I LISTENED THEN, MORE OFTEN

TO THE OLD ONES THAT WERE IN MY LIFE

IF ONLY I TOOK THE TIME THEN TO LISTEN

AND TO UNDERSTAND AND LEARN FROM THEIR STRIFE

THEN I RECKONED LIFE'S BLOWS WOULD HAVE BEEN SOFTENED

AND YOUTH'S GROWTH IN ARROGANCE BE LESSENED

THEY TOILED, THEY STROVE TO TEACH, THEY KNEW THE WAYS

TO MAKE THE PATH EASIER FOR OTHERS TO FOLLOW

HOW MUCH CLEARER ALL WOULD BE IF I LISTENED THOSE DAYS.

IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT MIGHTY ANVIL BLOWS

FORGES AND TEMPERED STEEL, BLUE AND TRUE

AND ON LIFE'S JOURNEY, LESSONS ONLY SHOWS

THAT IF I LISTENED THEN, I WOULD NOT TODAY RUE

AND REGRET THAT I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED A LOT MORE

WHEN THE OLD ONES WERE THERE TO TEACH THE WAY

AND ALL THAT KNOWLEDGE THEY HAD IN STORE

I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED AND LET THEM HAVE THEIR SAY

WOULD I NOT THEN, SO MUCH MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE BE TODAY.

So true !! We try to instill this wisdom in our children, only to realise that we ommitted to recognise true wisdom ourselves. Great write and applause to my talented Uncle. xxx
