A tragicomic tale

On a roller coaster, we smiled as we fell,
being aware ascent would follow descent
but in real life, we perhaps cannot tell
and most certainly heart contractions resent,
so we dwell in darkness, drawn to desire’s smell,
fearing to grant embrace of love our consent.
Piquant is our dilemma, free and yet bound,
our soul in illusions conjured by mind drowned.
