A Toast To All Mothers
Today my sister brought our niece for a visit. The day was going along as a day goes in the Ramel household. A little laundry being done (my father yells out “Wash my favorite flannel shirt”). Mom’s cooking, “Hey!” my brother says “The water is boiling over the kettle of the potatoes!” It's controlled chaos, like many households across America.
My sister and mother both go shopping for a while leaving three men and a baby. This is when the real adventure begins. Well baby Brooke has a touch of the flu and is very irritable. She also longs for her mommy. Well, it's a hilarious sight to see three grown men running around making a bottle of formula, pampering her whimpers and cries. In our defense I would like to say we tried everything: we carried her, we held her, we rocked her in a chair, changed her diaper (even though it didn't need changing we found out later) and talked in words that have more vowels than consonants. “Thank God!’ I said to my brother “Look momma's home.” You cannot imagine the relief three grown men had just felt.
Men can erect buildings, conquer countries and travel through space, but what my sister did left us all in awe. What a woman's touch did in a matter of seconds is incomparable, almost omnipotent. She silenced the violin cries of a baby that had us all in chains. So, here's to you mother's…..(you rock) and we salute you.
