A Time of Good Cheer

Trying hard to keep my spirits up It's that Christmas time of the year When one's reminded of Christmas's past The joy and overflowing good cheer When friends and family all lived close by And the love literally flowed unabated Visits to each other's homes were common Those feelings can't be imitated Now friends and family are scattered wide Modern day caused this sad revelation Even with Skype and instant messaging I feel much more in isolation Friendly kisses and touches are missing Tender words of love and friendship Instead this unfeeling computerized way Just adds to all of life's hardships Trying hard to keep my spirits up It's that Christmas time of the year When one's reminded of Christmas's past The joy and overflowing good cheer © Jack Ellison 2013

Jack, you really hit the nail on the head with this one. What you reveal matches the situation here exactly. I'd rather get a hand-written letter than an email in ascii text. I'd rather have a visit than Skype with video, but they're a thousand miles away. I'll raise a glass to you, Jack.

Last year I'd had to spend Xmas without my children, both of them having taken up positions in different countries. My daughter will be arriving a week before Xmas. We've Christmas cheer in mass numbers! The penguins can't wait for their first home Christmas with the family... Throw a party! Have some fun! Volunteer! But not like Dragon! Heaven forbid!... We finally got him to stop before the whole community fell apart! The live manger worked relatively well with Dragon's mouth tied shut... until people arrived... Then his tail started swishing around in excitement... It'll be rebuilt by tonight... by our Trolls... Dragon wants to be baby Jesus next... LOL

Christmas is a time of wonderment and joy to be shared with friends and family, no matter how far away they are...at times you can arrange it to meet with these friends and family to get together and share the joys of Christmas again! It is possible because I've done it and still do it with my far away friends and family...there's no better time to meet up with them than Christmas! But I do know it's not always possible, then you must stay in communication with them, and give good cheer!!
