A Thought, a Dream
To Roger with all my love
Someday your story will be told
A thought, a dream of yesterday;
A word that someone spoke.
An action born of bitterness--
A promise someone broke.
A thought, a dream of other times;
A voice in anger raised.
A deed contained in selfishness;
His actions never praised.
A thought, a dream of days gone by--
A childhood lived in pain;
A taunting, angry, bitter voice--
He feels the whip again.
A thought, a dream-a childhood gone;
A sad and lonely boy.
A single tear rolls down his face,
His innocence destroyed.
A thought, a dream--an old man sits
And thinks of long ago.
He reminisces bitterly;
He still feels every blow.
A thought a dream; a shattered life--
Just mem'ries of a boy.
If he'd been told that he was loved,
He might have found some joy.
