Notes About The Poem

A Suicide

Daddy's girl
Sinks
To Davy Jones' locker
Of grief.
Dad's earth-shattering goodbye,
So sudden, cruel.
Suicide, no note.
She's too numb
To feel the tsunami
Of looming pain.
In utter disbelief.
Her best friend
Mouths " I'm sorry for your loss"
She mutters
A barely audible "Thank you"
With downcast eyes.
Still numb, in denial.
Pain in her heart unmistakably visible
On face full of tears.
Nothing seems to make sense.
She sits up from bed
Gazing longingly
Into a tenebrious abyss,
Going through a litany of regrets
And missed warning signs.
A sea of confusion
Endlessly churning
In her mind, filled...
With one word question,
"WHY"?

We ask why their life couldn't be saved. Sometimes the despair overwhelms all joy then, why struggle on. Your poem is beautiful and sad.

I guess it's understandable when people with terminal illness--cancer, especially--take their own lives because the pain/suffering is too severe. It's still pretty sad all around! Thanks for the awesome feedback and visit, Ann. Happy New Year!

So sad that it happens to so many families. A troubled mind simply giving up on life--a tragedy. Great emotive poem, Edward--much pain and unanswered questions for the ones left behind. My very best to you and your family for the new year.

And the saddest thing is that suicides are mostly preventable, Vijay:-( It's really a horrible tragedy! Same to you and yours, my friend.

They must be in such a dark place to do that Edward, sad for those that are left behind who have to live with, could we have done more? But often there are no tell tale signs that anything is wrong. Wishing you a very happy new year with good health and happiness. Tom

That's the devastating thing about suicides, those left behind end up suffering the tragic aftermath for life! Wishing you all the same, Tom:-)
