A Star Gets Born

They were a long way from home, tired and worn,
So far from their home, their dreams all shattered and torn.

Chasing their rainbows, like young lovers do,
Looking for sunlight light with bright skies of blue.

Thinking they had a chance to get ahead of the game,
Putting it all on their plan seeking fortune and fame.

No thought of failure had ever once crossed their minds,
Simply believing they were the best you could find.

They had the looks and the talent like so many before,
As they learned the hard way it takes a key to unlock the door.

Rejections were many, they just couldn’t understand,
They thought they were the cream of the crop, the best in the land.

Night after nights they played their hearts out,
Never once not believing or having any doubts.

They played for food or a place they could lay,
Always in search of that bright sunlit day.

But those hard times really started knocking, it had them singing the blues,
When you’re down at the bottom what more can you lose?

Bitter cold outside as they stepped out from the bar,
They had been sleeping inside of their car.

They fell asleep with the engine running inside of this barn,
Nobody would have found them had he not passed out on the horn.

They were rushed to the hospital but it was a little too late,
Could be they’re playing tonight outside that great pearly gate.
