A Stamp

The Postal Service doesn’t have Too many in its camp And I know why, for I just learned It’s 50 cents a stamp! No wonder folks send e-cards And pay all their bills online, For 50 cents a stamp provides A solid cause to whine. I mostly purchase sheets of stamps Which last me quite a while, So buying just a single isn’t My accustomed style. And yet today, to mail a card That wouldn’t be belated, I gave the clerk 2 quarters And for change I stood and waited. ‘Twas then I learned that 50 cents Is now the going rate. I think towards e-cards I may just Begin to gravitate.

It tis a shame, we play the game. And then they change the rules. You'd think we'd learn, when it starts to burn, we wouldn't be such fools.

If it's any consolation to you, Ilene, even our postage is going up soon! maybe we can skip the stamps and deliver our mail by hand:) Regards // paul

I used stamps, Ilene, because I don't trust the electronic system and hackers. My bank assured me that it's safe. Do these bank officials live on Mars, listen to the news, or read newspapers? Sorry, I use stamps and pay my bills by check. A timely poem, Ilene. / M

Ha, ha! Guess what? About a week or two ago, the post office announced that it wants approval to raise the rate to 55 cents! … I don't know what should go first --- the post office or Chicago's public school system. It's a close race: It'll either be a photo finish or an oil painting. (Old Spike Jones line). Coming next: e-stamps! (Don't let that idea out of the bag now!) ~ gw

This was cute Ilene and I honestly had no idea that postage had gone up again. I guess the more we gravitate towards e-cards, etc. the rate will keep going up. I wonder when we will start being charged for email? Oops, did I say that out loud? : )

Lovely verse Ilene, whilst it's nice to receive a card through the post, emails and e.cards will eventually take over. Tom.

It's not like the bill I'm paying is enough. It will never go down.

We are losing post offices as so many people send e cards and e mails and subsequently the postal charges are going up which doesn't help the situation. I prefer to send real cards and put a message in with it too, its a lot more personal but I can understand anyone sending e card as they are so much more cost effective in so many ways:-) hugs Jan xx
