A Smudge of Heaven

A father looks down on his newborn child
a mirror of his image, concealing
a secret smile hiding among the stars
both seemingly absorbed
in metaphysical musings
taking time to enjoy
life's precious small pleasures.

How the heart can careen in his chest
to gaze into her eyes casting beauty like a spell
or a glow of starlight behind thin cloud
here is something spiritual that pierces the veil
into a world beyond this one- a smudge of heaven
for even a tiny fleeting second.

There is nothing like a baby of your own to bridge gap about contemplation of the universe. Loved the imagery. Jan 7
