A Sinner's Dinner
Tonight we dine
beneath the city skyline
whilst stargazing
in each other’s eyes
trying to read between the lines
and no amount of cover
will stop us to uncover
the beauty within
the deep cut in the vein
of this clover
the night is clear
the breeze is fair
and diner is palatable
and anything is possible
but what we have is unclear
you came prepared
but I’m unprepared
for what is on offer
before diner is even over
but I’d rather not regret
your gentle manner
and generous demeanour
you chew every morsel
as I stare at your jaw muscles
and we savour
and you smile
as I admire you facial
features that have
me falling in love
and I return the smile
you stand for the both
of us like a solemn oath
you fight for justice
like it’s a lasting promise
waiting for the moment of truth
and this meal we devour
without even a prayer
to the provider
will lead us to temptation
...’cos we’re sinners
So with this glass of wine
I toast you be mine
as we gorge and taste
each other’s flavours
and continue to dine...
...in sin
