A Silent Prayer

I turn on the news only to find it's morphed into a reality show
of well-rehearsed melodramas designed to sell time.
Alternative realities have manifested into hate,
there is blood on our streets!
Life's now all about the cash; everything revolves around
maintaining money and power.
We live in critical times,
the future of our children is in jeopardy!
Kids turn to the internet for companionship;
but friends get reduced to numbers,
lacking any physical interface.
Gobble warming is absolute; the world is changing!
Yet most folks live for today, denying disaster will ever come,
and when it does, they'll defer the blame to someone else.
We are addicted to technology; it's the monkey on our backs,
and self-annihilation may be the cost we pay.
We keep rallying to false flags, forming groups of them and us.
And while worshiping the almighty dollar,
we haggle over the price of our souls.
Fearing what the future holds, I offer this silent prayer:
please, God, forgive us in our time of greed. Amen.
