A Senseless Census Form

It seems like aeons since as a boy I climbed a tree
life of simplicity a sense of feeling free

No invasive cameras hiding in the tree I would climb
Meditation it just happened daydreaming a life sublime

No compulsion to vote or fill out a census (senseless) form
Many years I avoid it all I have no desire to conform

The rhyming couplets give the poem an easy, conversational flow, while the contrast between carefree childhood and intrusive adult obligations sharpens its satire. The “census (senseless)” wordplay adds a pointed touch to the speaker’s spirited refusal to conform.
