A Scout's Farewell
One final farewell
My career and all her
euphoric ironies
The end of the Road
like a Boys to Men
Harmony
I woke up one
November morning
and life came crashing in
That's the way it happens
sometimes,
the same thing that's meant
to give life
twists, gets stuck, and
almost does you in
Like water over a cliff's edge
how can I get back on top again?
No more push ups on
a Vilseck hill
No more cadence
or brotherly banter
No more colonels
to roll my eyes towards.
My military hallmarks
have all but
concluded.
The prestige I sought
forever eluded
I guess it's time
to hide and seek
on unfamiliar terrain
Trade in my sick leave
for grand children's laughter.
New hallmark moments
Happily before
there after...
