A Scattering of Sparkle

You were drawn to its contours
worn smooth by the elements
over eons of existence;

cream colored and streaked with grayish blue
with its scattering of sparkle -
ensconced in the sand
special amongst the many on the rocky beach

a souvenir from the shore
of the day we walked in its mist
and the wind blew our footsteps
this way and that way
as well as our thoughts
while we reminisced…

now..
it is where you left it;
stoic
and sentimental
it stands vigil
on the small windowsill
overlooking the pathway to my door
awaiting your return
my beloved daughter

...as it patiently endures
it is the perfect representation
of
my heart

Oh yes, Harshita, I'm sure your mother will feel the same way I do and will hate to let you go, but with a heavy and always loving heart she will, because she knows that you need to grow into adulthood and experience all the benefits of attaining an education and learning to live an independent life.. When will you be going to college? You're sensitive to your mother's feelings, that's so wonderful. I cherish your precious thoughts and comments my dear friend.. Warmest wishes always.. ~Susan

Some pebbles...and daughters tend to be special! They manage to sparkle and catch the eye, even if surrounded by many others vying for attention. I love your poem because you manage to project your maternal feelings without being soppy or overly melodramatic. Wouldn't it be lovely were that pebble to have the shape of a heart! So glad that you and your daughter are enjoying a short but satisfying break together! ~ Warm regards and hugs // paul

And it is a beautiful representation of your heart, Susan. I hope your daughter read this. If so, she should have been running to you. If not, get me her number and I'll talk to that child and tell her to get her buttocks over to her wonderful mother's house...lol As always a wonderful write my dear friend...Warmest wishes, Charlie

no bond is stronger than a mother and daughter, except maybe a daughter and her father...we raise them and it all passes so quickly...

Indeed, Frederic. A father and daughter bond is as special as a mother and daughter. Each is equally important in nourishing a child's development into young adulthood and each is just as cherished.. Thank you for your beautiful and meaningful comments my wonderful friend.. ~Susan
