A Sad Christmas Day

Christmas Day, December 25th – she sits alone in living room; joyous day for her is but a myth; this day is filled with sad and gloom. All her family and friends are gone; she has no one with whom to share season’s joy; youth’s happiness foregone; her spirit filled with doleful air. Sitting on the sofa all alone; fire in the woodstove softly burns; reading poetry of somber tone in hopes to ease these woeful yearns. Longing for the love she’s been without, but Christmas tidings warmly brings cyber friends to her are reaching out in hopes to heal her broken wings. _________________________ Merry Christmas, Dear Heart December 14, 2018

So sad John, that what was once a thriving busy household has now disappeared with the passing of time. Christmas is indeed a sad and lonely time for many. Tom.

I just posted my 'sad' one for the contest and after reading yours I truly need to find some funny writes. So many people are lonely at Christmas and your write symbolizes all of them, to me. Well written, poignant and oh, so based in reality as endured, sadly, by so many. Hope your world is golden. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

For some of us, there are no friends and family members nearby. Christmas can be much the way you describe, or we can look outside of ourselves and find joy in the happiness of others. It is something my late Aunt Eva always did. Your poem touched my heart, John, and I'm sure it will be special to Dear Heart as well. Best wishes in her contest. Hugs, Carolyn

Thank you, Heidi. I hope Constance isn't offended by this, when I saw her contest notes saying she was going to be reading them on Christmas day it really tugged at my heart strings.

Even though I have experienced loss, we all have. Perhaps not in ways that many have- my heart cannot linger in the gloom. Drowning in sadness truly can affect a person, emotionally. Which isn't healthy. Your thoughts hold me close. I hope "Dear Heart" is able to find joy. Even if in a small moment. ~ Brandy
