A Sabbath Reflection

Gentle as a rain the evening falls
Into the lap of night
Away from cares and pain she calls
This moment of sweet delight

Now earth her restlessness cease
The weary heart turns home
Thine is the kingdom, king of peace
Who still the billowy foam

O let me taste eternity again
The bright moment before
The world a pendulum picked up the strain
Of the tide upon the shore

Then no past in today could past away
And no tomorrow to come
Your presence the moment eternal stay
And glory filled your kingdom

O Sabbath day, O rest that once by Galilee
Heal the broken heart of men
Seek me still here your promised mercy
And a little drop of heaven

Through the rosy veil of parting light
I clung to you in prayer
I meet you and in the stillness delight
Peace breathing like a lyre.
