A Rousing Ovation

It is no secret that some people crave affirmation
Seeking anyone who will give them confirmation,
Apparently not grounded in their own foundation
Wanting anyone to tell them they are a sensation.

What a pity! For every person is awarded citation
Here, in life, for having their own unique duration
Keep in mind, not many will get a royal coronation
But be happy, for you deserve a rousing ovation!

We get the citation posthumously: past expiration date!

True. I believe most poets became famous after they bought the farm. I doubt I'll ever write anything worthy of future generations, but that doesn't keep me from writing. Out of thousands of poems, I probably have two or three that will outlive me. I hope so, anyway.

Envious of you, gw, or me? Hilary has more accolades in one hand than I'll ever have. Yes, gw, I'm a Hilary fan! I'm a gw fan, too, though, so that makes up for it, eh?

'not many will get a royal coronation'... you're right, most people, including many of us, will always be pawns in this chess of existence. the good news is that even kings can be overthrown by a pawn determined to win. the problem is that determination is the opposite of laziness, my biggest flaw.

Aw, Marco, I find that hard to believe...your biggest flaw, that is. Determination has fueled most of my creative efforts my entire life. I came from very poor coal miner stock, but, from early childhood I have been determined to succeed at whatever I do. "Even kings can be overthrown..." but beggars (the poor) can become incredibly successful, too. Think Whoopi Goldberg and J. K. Rowlings, for just two examples.
