A Rosary For Peace

These martyred men that for nothing died
In an obsolete, irrelevant war
What do we tell their children that cried
How we do cleanse our soul from the scar

And the cost of it was not just on our side
But there where bunker busting bombs
The fragile innocents with fool's fire deride
Before gaping heart as terror numbs

The plea upon our tongues. God spare us
Fools with power again, forgive
Our self-centered, pomposity of dust
That we may not die as we have lived.

Greed, envy, and callous pride betrays
The image we bear of you. O
Merciful redeemer, Let your love portrays
Sense that rise from shacks of sorrow.

Take my words like beads on strings
Of piety, toll them in your heart,
A rosary, for peace where anger brings
The race to where we fall apart.

As a 30 year Navy Reservist, I believe that war might be necessary in defense of one's nation but not as an excuse for oil hunting or protection of executive lifestyles. Any good military man would see war as a last resort. Guess I'm a contradiction as I believe in a strong military and the need for world peace. Keep writing. Vince
