A Rock Between Us
A ROCK BETWEEN US
A rock was standing there between us,
Hard and huge and stubborn there.
I had thought that you had placed it,
And you really didn’t care.
You desired that I would break it,
But I thought the job should be
Yours to break and change position,
And that you’d agree with me.
I had been on this road longer,
I thought I knew more than you;
Breaking down the rock between us
Really was your job to do.
Someone else, though, on the highway
Where the rock now firmly stood
Knew who most needed to break it,
Move it from its place for good.
So He took His mighty hammer
And with love He looked at me;
Through the message of that other
Helped me now that rock to see
Was not placed there by that person
With whom I would disagree;
No, my pride had been the reason;
That rock had belonged to me.
God then used that other person
And the unique ways he loved;
Now the rock is finally broken,
And I pray it stays removed.
God took that strong rock between us,
Made a way for us to see
That His plans in our lives for us
Are the best that they can be!
