A Robins Refrain

You hear it first, while still in your bed
Filtering thru the dreams in your head.
Sweet melody for the coming sunrise,
His gift gives such a morning surprise!
Rust colored breast he hops to the ground
Where worms and berries ‘n seeds abound.
To feed the chicks kept warm in the nest
Kept safe under their mother’s breast.
The robin’s song, a greeting of spring
And all the joy that nature can bring.
As he looks in the grass, without a care
Hoping around, going here and there…

Loudly she chirps “What keeps you so long?
Our chicks are hungry, forget that song!”

what a charming poem Betty I always feel uplifted when I see a robin in the garden ... they always seem to appear when I'm gardening just waiting for a tasty worm I guess!:-) hugs Jan xx
