A Respite In Time

My heart whispers secrets to my soul at night,
revealing truths shadowed by the light of day.
Within dreams, fledgling feelings flex wings for flight;
fleeing reality as it drifts away.
Anxiety fights sleep to keep me awake;
micromanaging each minuscule mistake.
And yet, the secret whisperings of my heart
anchor my thoughts, encouraging dreams to start.
Dreams are an abandonment of decisions;
your mind subconsciously scripts the part you'll play.
Your role is subject to many revisions,
from fighting wars to starring in a ballet.
Tethered to the emotions you're perceiving,
fantasy dreams trick you into believing.
Although they're not real, they tend to feel so,
a respite in time where only sleep can go.
