A Rainy Night Visitor

The air is drunk on the scent of trellised roses
Snails draw trails on a rain soaked white washed shed
Shapes draw eerie life like human poses
Stars reside among white clouds overhead.

I saw her framed in the arbor in your garden
Chatting with kids now raising kids of their own
Her visit did not illicit a word of pardon
She would be proud to see how they have grown.

My shadow a shimmering path across the grass
Invited me into worlds now torn apart
But present tense reigned over memories past
As my mind bowed gracefully to my longing heart.

I was not surprised or saddened by her presence
She is ever present in all that matters most
At times like this when I feel her very essence
I wonder who's alive and who's the ghost.

You get featured because you are new, that's the policy to keep people posting. Don't get excited about all the positive commentary, it's mostly just shallow phrases so you hopefully buy a premium membership. Good, now that I got that out, a very good poem with great imagery, specially the first two stanzas. The last two lose some of the colourful language.

Hello, Joe , Stopping by with a nice, sweet Welcome to Poetry Soup. I will find much delight, in reading and in time become familiar with your way of writing. But, for the mean time, I will greet you with the same smile, other poets passed when I first join the soup 4 years ago. I wish you the best when it comes to your poems. I hope you get to meet all the nice poets around here. Starting with me. SKAT :-) Please drop a hello and tell me a little about yourself if you like. I would like to be your newest poetry soup "FRIEND". Hugs* SKAT

SKAT, thank you for the warm welcome and kind words. I am still getting my sea legs on the site but look forward to getting to know you and your work and the other poets. I am on the lam from many years of Wall Street servitude and look forward to focusing on the other side of my brain. Again, thank you. Your kind words inspire me to take the leap of faith. Cheers, Joe

Joe. a beautiful making, deep imagery, how one ponders on the past and present, your ending questions has me searching for the right answer. A nice warm WELCOME to poetry soup. I hope you enjoy the community, as I did when I first join the soup March 2010. You will find many friendly poets, who are ready to take you under their wings, and offer positive feedback. I will be around to help you grow with the community, if you like. I look forward to getting to know you and your poetry :) :) :) We are one big happy family. (Drama & Love) ~ Take Care!! Linda, Thank you for the warm welcome. In many ways, this poem writes/defines me rather than the other way around. Standing in the rain in my sister's garden in Dublin, my mother dropped in Gondar hello and the poem is the result. I look forward to getting involved in the Soup Family.

Barbara, thank you. Sad? Yes in a way but also very glad to be able to continue to rely on her strength.
