A Psalm to God my Creator
You inhabit light unapproachable,
there is no darkness with you.
Darkness and light are alike to you.
In the beginning when the earth was formless
and darkness hovered over the deep,
You spoke, and light appeared.
At your command, the earth emerged
out of the primordial darkness and deep.
In the darkness of my mother’s womb,
you orchestrated the formation of my organs.
Before I even existed, you ordained my days,
my unformed thoughts are known to you.
The pattern you ordained at the earth’s birth
continues today, as night precedes day
and daylight follows the darkness of night.
When the night-shades fall, I drift into sleep
as when in the womb, in darkness I grew,
'tis the creation motif repeating.
You who from the dust of the earth formed man,
and in the darkness of the womb shapes his form
then out of darkness brings him into the light
Your creative power is daily on display
as the body of man is daily renewed
in nightly sleep, then is born again at morning light.
O Lord my Creator and my God
how awesome are your marvelous works
I bow in worship before you, my Maker
Restore Your perfect image in me
So that with the dawn of each new day
my recreated being will give you praise.
