A Promised Land
A Promised Land
The Gods are powerful and we are weak
That is what the teachers teach
Insurmountable too high a peak
An image of something or someone that men and women can never reach
Idolise them and be humble not even to try to speak
A scandal all through the ages to keep people wanting to keep
The sword shed blood enough to shut the door on reason now suckle like a leech
Behold another problem that everybody has but only certain people can reach
Pay with your servitude and you may eat but only dare to dream one and each
You have taken from the table that will imprison you and your mind bleach
Forfeit your freedom for a promise that no one can ever give you and you will die and turn to dust in sleep
